Why did you decide to go into your profession?

Curiosity is an integral part of my nature. I am fascinated by people, places and things, and that innate curiosity about the world led me to my first passion, journalism. I devoted nearly 20 years of my professional life to reporting, anchoring and producing award-winning television news programs around the country.

I lost it at work two weeks ago. Not a few tears running down my face, but an ugly, bawling meltdown.

The conversation that precipitated this scene was innocent enough. I was talking about my mother-in-law, who recently entered assisted living, and how I wrapped 12 Christmas packages for her—one to open each day, since we weren’t able to visit her.

This holiday season many nonprofits in the Susquehanna Valley are doing their best to raise not only spirits but money for good causes and one, in particular, is focusing on children.

It might be the darkest day of the year but one local organization made sure that it wasn’t the darkest night by letting Dauphin County’s most vulnerable children know they haven’t been forgotten.

The Pandemic changing the way we ring in the New Year, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate safely! 

Just like every other holiday that’s seen some adjustments while celebrating in 2020, COVID-19 is now taking over probably one of the most anticipated — New Year’s Eve.

Given the limits imposed by social distancing, Doug Koozer considered canceling the opening scheduled for this weekend at his art gallery on the West Shore.

But he and his business partner, Jason Kreiger, decided to forge ahead. Instead of a traditional in-person opening, they are hosting a virtual event. Their goal is to help artists who are struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic — and to create something of a lifeline for their gallery, called BrainVessel. 

Joy Gross is dedicated when it comes to helping those voiceless as a CASA volunteer.

“CASA stands for court-appointed special advocate. And a CASA volunteer is an individual who goes through many hours of training, and then is appointed by the judge to be an advocate for children,” Gross said.

She has handled nine cases and advocated for 24 children over the past 10 years.

It may just look like a box, and inside it may just be a meal, but to the folks on the front lines this could mean a lot when it shows up in a bag like this delivered with love on National EMS Week.

A sandwich: farm fresh, locally sourced and made for the men and women on the front lines.

June is Dairy Month, and to celebrate, the Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association announced Thursday that it’s holding a new “Dairy Smiles” contest.

To enter, everyone age 18 and older is encouraged to share and post their favorite dairy or PA Farm Show milkshake photos on social media with the hashtag #DairySmiles.

Submissions will be accepted starting Monday, June 15, and will last through the end of the month.

The Pennsylvania Dairymen’s Association is launching a new “Dairy Smiles” campaign to celebrate Summer and June Dairy Month.

To enter, anyone 18 years and older is encouraged to share and post their favorite dairy or PA Farm Show milkshake photos between Monday, June 15, and Tuesday, June 30 on social media with #DairySmiles.
